According to one scientist, ability to differentiate operates at a very shallow level of the brain, while ability to find commonalities involves highly sophisticated information processing- a much deeper level of the brain. Those who can get along with all kinds of people, seeking them as equals, as fellow human being, manifest the true excellence of their character. They are people of genuine culture and education. The richer our hearts, our humanity, the more we can recognize and value other's humanity.

ある大脳生理学者によると、何かの「違い」を見つけるのは脳の浅いところの働きであり、「同じ」面を見つけるのは、脳の深いところで行われる高度な情報処理なのだという。つまり、だれに対しても「同じ人間として」つき合える人こそ、「優秀な人」であり、本当の教養がある人です。自分の人間性が豊かな分だけ、他人の中にも人間性を発見できる。
